Higher education plays a crucial role in a person’s life; however, the correct approach towards it is often a topic of debate. Some believe that tertiary education should involve the subjects that students relish, while others feel those subjects should be taught which help them prepare for the future. I firmly believe it is indispensable for students to study what prepares them well for their future as once they complete University Education, most of them go out and look for work. In this essay, I shall discuss both sides and my opinion.
Some think that all university students should study what they enjoy, for education proves fruitful only if one relishes what one devotes time to. These people probably feel that education should not be a burden, and a person should be allowed to explore their natural talents that can be explored by doing what one is drawn to the most.
On the other hand, one should not ignore the practical aspects of life, so others think that immediately after completing university-level education, most students have to go out into the real world to search for jobs or start their ventures. Both these require some skills, so probably university is not the right place to work to our liking and ignoring what is in demand to build careers.
One can later invest time in doing or studying what they like. If one does not invest ample time in educating self, that person finds it difficult to compete with peers causing inferiority complex and stress.
In conclusion, university education is a serious part of one’s life and it is not appropriate to indulge in exploring one’s interests. A learner must prepare for the real world where one is supposed to have a stronghold on some in-demand skills.
