A competitive person can gauge the atmosphere and others’ performances to improve themselves to defeat others and stay ahead of everyone. It is sometimes necessary to survive and be relevant.
However, others feel that being competitive can be detrimental to self and others as a competitive person tries to step on others’ toes. Some people may get over-competitive and may harm others. History has numerous stories where a person or regime lost rationality and did not hesitate to choose a bloodbath to declare supremacy over others. Nevertheless, there is a better way to progress in which people cooperate to attract growth in their and others’ lives. This strategy ensures peace and a conducive atmosphere. Moreover, even a timid person can perform at a high potential as opposing forces subdue. Thus, children should be taught the benefits of cooperating with others.
In my opinion, it is better to be cooperative than be competitive as it can ensure more contribution, but the other approach sprouts more rivalry and an unfavourable atmosphere for many people. Some people are naturally creative, whereas others may be too timid to defend themselves in a competitive atmosphere. Finally, cooperation has more advantages over competing with others. However, competitive behaviour should be practiced in the wake of a political or personal threat. Thus, children should be taught the virtues of cooperation. However, a little healthy competitiveness may be required to ensure survival or to perform better.
