What success really is, has been long debated over by people around this world, and that too for ages. For some, success means earning a large sum of money whereas, for others, the biggest achievement is being able to give back to society. This essay aims at discussing both viewpoints and coming to a conclusion.
For some people, success is being able to earn an abundant amount of money. Money can bring comfort and luxury to their lives. It also brings more acceptance and respect to others’ eyes. These people put in work to gather money and make their life easier and opulent. More wealth and materialistic gains are the most important to them.
For others, gathering money is meaningless, and they try to find meaning in their life by extending a helping hand to whosoever needs it. These are probably the people who are not satisfied with materialistic gains in life and look for more profound experiences. One way to attain happiness for them is utilizing their knowledge, skills, and means to make others’ lives better. These people rise above selfish agendas and empathize with others. These actions make society happier and more empowered which in turn benefit each individual.
In my opinion, just gathering material possessions for self can be a shallow pursuit and will not lead to happiness. If we help others, we get happiness deeper than what we get by simply focussing on self-serving. Also, contributing to society and its benefits, in turn, does a lot of good to the person.
To conclude, People can only be truly happy if they live in a promoting society which is possible if everyone contributes to it, especially the ones who are in a better position because they have more knowledge or more money. This is the real success.
