Watching TV and playing games on computers are considered beneficial for children by some, while others feel that it is not the case. I believe a balanced consumption of quality TV programs and a few games help a child’s mental growth, but overconsumption has numerous detrimental impacts.
Lately, youngsters have started indulging in computer games. Some computer games help a child develop many skills and capabilities: hand-eye coordination, teamwork, multitasking, and problem-solving. Nevertheless, these games can be addictive, for it has been observed that sometimes children keep playing games and ignore their outdoor sports and studies. Further, some of these games make children aggressive and anxious. There have been incidents when some parents have sought help from child psychologists and counselors for their children suffering from anxiety, depression, and aggression issues reported to be induced by excessive gaming.
Similarly, TV programs are of multiple types, and there is no scarcity of television broadcasts that can help children in numerous aspects. These documentaries or series can be great sources of infotainment for children. In addition, some cartoon and animation-based series are full of fun for children; further, some good ones teach children moral values and real-life skills to our little ones. Nonetheless, some are either not suitable for the delicate minds of little ones or may impact them adversely. There should, that is why supervision and control on the quality and dose of indulgence.
To sum up, no doubt TV content and online gaming have some positive impacts on children, yet just like everything else, they can be detrimental to children’s health and mental growth if there is no check by parents and guardians.
